Staff Spotlight: Sports Information Directors

At WinWon, we’ve had the privilege of visiting with hundreds of people that work within College Athletics. We’re excited to highlight the staff that support this incredible world. Today, we’re focused on Sports Information Directors (SIDs), who work behind the scenes to make college sports a memorable experience for all of us.

The SID role has changed significantly over the last decade. Responsible for managing media and public relations for collegiate sports programs, SIDs act as the link between athletic departments and the public. Today, this role has expanded beyond traditional media and journalistic pieces to include ever-evolving social media accounts.

These accounts have revolutionized the way we connect with our favorite sports teams, and SIDs have transformed into content creators and curators, crafting engaging visuals, captivating videos, and compelling written content. Beyond keeping fans informed, they entertain and inspire everyone following a team. As social media has made it easier to connect online, it also demands that new content is created daily - a process that can be time consuming and require immense attention to detail and creativity.

The fast-paced nature of social media demands real-time updates on game scores, highlights, and player statistics. SIDs need to think quickly, multitask, and constantly reinvent their content. They also utilize social media to interact with fans and foster a sense of community for a college’s sports programs.

Sports Information Directors are unsung heroes of college sports, weaving narratives and fostering communities of passionate fans. As we look to the future, we are excited about the potential for advanced technology to support this role. Our ultimate goal is to provide innovative solutions that empower SIDs to navigate the digital landscape with unparalleled ease and efficiency.
