Introducing Liam Bryant, Demonstrating Leadership Across Campus

WinWon Scholar recipient Liam Bryant is a standout football player, Education major, and student advocate at William Penn University. Initially a transfer student, Liam quickly found community at WPU and has embraced opportunities for academic, athletic, and personal growth. He joined the football team, and he continues to build meaningful relationships with students and faculty. "WPU has become family to me," he reflected: “They’ve shown me what a great college experience can be.”

Now an active member of the WPU community, Liam seeks out leadership and student advocacy roles. While he initially considered a career in business, Liam’s true passion lies in high school education and coaching. He’s pursuing a degree in Education and is a passionate advocate for paid student teaching internships. "We’re one of the only professions that don’t have a paid internship," Liam explained. "We [work] 16 weeks unpaid while still paying for school and living expenses." His advocacy work has taken him to the Iowa State Capitol, where he and his peers met with legislators to push for changes that would benefit future educators.

Liam’s leadership extends far beyond the classroom. As a member of the Football Leadership Council, he’s responsible for his teammates, on and off the field. He helps ensure that his teammates attend classes, weights, study halls, and team activities and volunteers as a tutor. Liam also serves as vice president of the Alpha Sigma Chi fraternity. He recruits new members, ensures their eligibility, and manages communications, like social media.

Liam has a strong sense of community. He actively encourages his football teammates to attend other sporting events and believes that mutual support among athletes fosters a stronger campus community. "It’s important to support our classmates and teammates," Liam said: "When one sport does well, it lifts up the entire community."

Liam’s passion for education and mentorship extends to his future career goals. After graduation, he plans to teach and coach, instilling the values of teamwork and perseverance in young athletes. "As a coach, I want my athletes to know they can rely on me," Liam explained: "I want to build strong families through sports, where teammates become lifelong friends."

We’re excited to honor Liam as a WinWon Scholar for his dedication to football, education, and community. His commitment to his fellow teammates and educators is inspiring and we know he will continue to make the William Penn community proud.
